Last Friday I had a big e-mail file waiting for me. I had already downloaded a few messages when I got to that one. After 30 minutes the download was still in process and my battery had run out. I couldn't abort the message in progress, so I had to shut down the computer. The net result was that I lost all the messages up to that one. I have asked those whose messages were lost to re-send them, so don't worry that yours was lost if you didn't get a message from me. I have now modified my account to reject messages larger than 200k, and even that is pretty big. Most text messages are less than 10k, it is the attached files, photos, etc. that are so large. There are a number of problems with big files: 1. They fill up the allocated file space and other messages are rejected. So, to whomever sent the file, please let me know what it was all about and whether you got a reject message, just don't send it again! In a lighter vein, we are still enjoying Mazatlan. We have been here two months and could easily stay longer. Our friends John, Suzanne and daughter Lexi stayed with us for 10 days and we all had a great time, although it went very quickly. Patricia has been up in Seattle for two weeks and will return on Tuesday. She has been very busy seeing family and shopping for all the boat stuff we need and can't get here in Mexico. She is also sewing a foredeck awning to keep the boat cool in the hot sun. She apologizes to all those she had wanted to call and to meet, but she just plain ran out of time. I know her trip has been pretty stressful and she hasn't done all the things she planned. I stayed here and got a few boat projects completed. I have really missed Patricia, it will be good to have her back. Next Friday our friends Cathy and Rich will come to spend Carnaval in Mazatlan and then we will sail with them to Puerto Vallarta, taking it easy and visiting islands and small mainland villages on the way. They will fly back to Seattle from P.V. and we will continue on down the coast at least as far as Zihuatenejo, where Pattie's daughter, Carmen, and her family hope to meet us. We will probably work our way back up to Mazatlan in June and leave the boat there for three months, during the hot and hurricane season. We are thinking that we will go to an intensive Spanish language school in Guadalajara or Cuernavaca for 5 weeks and then travel by bus back to Mazatlan, stopping in small mountain villages and towns on the way. When you get away from the big cities and the tourist areas, you can live pretty well on a small budget. Today I had my teeth cleaned for $24. The dentist did it himself, he doesn't have an assistant just a receptionist. His wife is also a dentist in the same office. He quoted me $400 for a bridge, porcelain over gold and I'm thinking seriously about it. Well, that's about all the news for now. It's always good to hear from any of you, what you are up to and how you are doing, just don't attach any big files! Colin, |
